Korg SV-1 ‘Stage Vintage’ keyboard.

Published on May 12th, 2010

In Issue 74 of AudioTechnology, Brad Watts reviews the Korg SV-1 stage piano. There was a touch of contention in the AT editorial office about the look of this vintage-vibe keyboard, but Brad thought it was a nice piece of kit. Frankly, you could write ‘Korg’ on a house brick and Brad would take it out to dinner, but we thought we’d put this up so you can draw your own conclusions. Alternatively, have a listen to the SV-1 here.

Thanks for the review, however the fundamental question is always – what does it sound like? Please let us hear the sound of anything you are reviewing by video as a priority. If all reviews began with some sounds then we would get to the point very quickly.
When assessing equipment this is always my first question. If I don’t like the sound then the questions of: how many presets; what I can access in the editor; what the eq is like, and so on, become fairly minor.
    Thanks

We agree Stephen. A sound snippet is always good, and is certainly the defining aspect of any instrument. However, after considering the option to supply samples of the SV-1, and considering the quality such samples are represented by YouTube’s data compression, we opted not to include samples in the video. Tell you what though, after a couple of queries similar to yours, we’ve uploaded a 96kHz sample of some of the demos to our downloads page. The file was recorded via the XLR balanced outputs of the SV-1 via a MOTU 828 MkII. See what you think!
