Despite the tacky Guitar Hero looking interface, this actually looks like a fantastic little mixer! The website has a pretty detailed overview on it: http://line6.com/stagescape-m20d/overview

Nagra Kudelski has a long and distinguished history of manufacturing legendary precision tape recorders and the tactile feel of their new handheld broadcast model, the SD, is in keeping with this heritage.

It is a lovely little recorder and my first impression was its sturdy feel. The metal case is aluminium but has some heft to it and the density and quality of the switches on the back contribute to the jewel-like Nagra feel.

The SD records up to 24bit, 96k and is equipped with exceptionally high quality microphone preamplifiers, giving it a recording performance and quality never before seen in a hand-held broadcast recorder.

Traditional Nagra build quality and ergonomic design make it an easy-to-use compact tool for in-the-field recording. The overall control, quality and sound is superior to the company's earlier small solid-state recorders.

It actually puts one in mind of the classic Nagra SN miniature spy reel-reel tape recorders.

Of course, Nagra quality does also come at somewhat of a premium and the SD is not cheap but it is a fabulous little recorder and well worth the cost to the professional recordist.

The 421 II has a prominent peak that makes it unsuitable for a lot of things the original 421 was great at.

I agree, the H2n is a valuable swiss army knife for recording audio as well as being a really good audio player. The line input works extremely well for inputting external mixers, and the sound quality, especially recorded at 96K 24 bit sounds smooth and fairly true to the original. I also use it in the studio to capture room sound to add in to mixes.

I was shocked to read this morning that Bruce had been killed in a plane crash. (I have an old photo of his Mooney aircraft parked at Santa Monica Airport)

I'm heading off to the US next week and in the process of trying to reconnect received the sad news.

The last time I saw Bruce was at Entech in Sydney many years ago. Bruce and I were high school buddies and fellow electronic experimenters. As James has alluded to above, 'Radio 2VH (1350Khz AM), was one of our school projects that made the newspapers.

There is a nice tribute to Bruce here:
