Hello, I'm currently in the need of a monitor selector and am interested in building one myself. Would I be able to get any assistance on how to go about constructing the unit for my needs? Inputs: A. Computer sound card. B. CD player. C. Record player. D. otherOutputs: A. Main stereo monitors. B. Single Auratone-style speaker. C. Pair of hi-fi speakers. D. Headphones.Below is a crude schematic that I have created. Thank You, Danjel.

I think there was something similar not too long ago in the magazine. I'll have to try and look it up when I get a chance.

I recently built one I designed. It's 2 input (one pair from the DAW and one pair from a reference CD player) and 4 outputs, all balanced. It has a main attenuator, switched from 0dB to -10dB in 2dB steps (handy for working with K system). Each monitor output has a separate trim, to allow SPL calibration. If you are interested I can post the details up and you can choose any bits of it you might like to use in your design.

@ LogicprObe, that would be a nice read.
@ gswan, that would be fantastic. I would really appreciate it to see how you constructed yours.

It sounds like a very good idea to have the individual trim knobs for each speaker.

Back in issue 78, Rob Squire built a monitor controller as LogicprObe mentioned. Might not be exactly what your after but it may help! I've uploaded the PDF for you http://tiny.cc/upl2fw

Give me a day to get some photos, write up some notes about it and post it up.

Another thing, you don't need to switch your headphones through the monitor selector. Headphones should be connected to a headphone amplifier and can be active all the time. You'll find that more useful.
