
Nestled in the main street of Tennant Creek, Dr Flouride’s Lair is a studio that rides in the lounge room of Jeffrey Mclaughlin, production manager of the Winanjjikari Music Centre. The studio isn’t actually tethered to an address, and has spent time in various locations, including the famous Warumpi Studios in Pupunya, recording Triple J Unearthed winners, The Tjupi Band. The studio can also be broken down for recording live shows, and has recorded major ‘outback’ festivals.
Dr Flouride’s Lair runs on a Macbook Pro, iBook G4, and a G5, recording to ProTools 8 and a Digidesign 003 combined with a Presonus convertors. A second system runs on a Digidesign 002. Other bits of recording apparatus include a Soundcraft GB2 console, Rupert Neve 5012 preamp, an API lunchbox sporting two JLM Dual 99v pre’s and two JLM TG500 pre’s, dbx 166, and a Roland Space Echo. Microphones include a 1956 Grundig ribbon mic, Rode NT 1, Rode NT 3, Beyer M88, Shure SM58 and four SM57s, JTS NX5, SM Pro ribbon mic, Joe Meek JLM, and Bardi drum mics. Instruments include a 2004 Gibson Les Paul Jr, 1974 Maton f100, Tune Bass Maniac, 1985 Fender Strat, Line 6 Pod, Roland Juno 60, Korg Micro Preset, Korg Poly Six, along with a Yamaha drum kit and assorted percussion.
