Heliport Studios, is a newly opened studio perched on an escarpment on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, in a 56-acre wildlife zone overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Heliport offers seclusion and a plethora of gear. The control room houses Australia’s only commercially available Solid State Logic (SSL) Duality digital/analogue mixing console, offering dynamics on every channel and full DAW control. The console is tied to a ProTools 8 HD3 system running on an Apple MacPro with 48-channel I/O via Lynx Aurora converters, and monitored via Focal twins and Avantone cubes. Sessions can be tracked through a number of mics; from Neumann U87s and Royer and Coles ribbons, through to Wunder Audio CM7s. Preamps include the LaChapell 992EG, Vintech X73, JLM Audio Dual 99v500, TG500, and POQ500. Compression includes a Universal Audio 1176, LA-2A, Atomic Squeezebox, and Chameleon Labs units. Reverb is courtesy of the classic Lexicon 480L. Players also have individual control of their own 16-channel monitor mix via an Aviom Hearback System.
The layout presents the control room with three main studio spaces, with smaller amp-rooms adjoining them. The live room has a floating solid timber surface specifically treated to reduce standing waves and create a natural reverb. There’s also a medium room that’s large enough to contain two players and an acoustically ‘dead’ vocal booth. Every room has views over the ocean, forest, and the tropical rainforest gardens.
Heliport offers comfortable kitchen facilities, couches to kick back on, and of course, a full-size helipad should you need to drop in for a quick session.
