Matthew Gray Mastering is a purpose built dedicated mastering facility in Brisbane, Queensland. For monitoring Matthew chooses Duntech Marquis with a Pass Labs X250 power amp and stereo Velodyne DD12 subs for full range and accurate monitoring. The acoustic treatments are by Chris Morton from Aro Tech in Adelaide. The facility also offers 5.1 surround monitoring with Digidesign/PMC RM1s for music, post production and film mastering duties. For the analog side of the chain, Matthew Gray Mastering use some of the world’s finest mastering processors from Sontec, Buzz Audio, API, Thermionic Culture, vintage Neve line amps and half- and quarter-inch tape decks from Ampex and Studer. This is all captured with the high quality A>D conversion from Pacific Microsonics, Lavry Gold, Cranesong HEDD and Forssell MADA-2. The studio also offers ProTools HD with numerous plugins to handle stem mastering and surround work. The gear listing includes the Sontec MES-432C Mastering equaliser, Buzz Audio REQ-2.2 Class A Resonance mastering equaliser, API 5500 analog EQ, API 2500 compressor, Thermionic Culture Phoenix Vari Mu valve compressor, Weiss DS1-Mk3 de-esser/compressor/limiter, Euphonix Pacific Microsonics HDCD Model 2 A/D & D/A converters, Lavry Gold AD122-96 MKIII A>D converter, Cranesong HEDD 192 converters, Forssell MADA-2 converters, Dangerous Master analogue mastering console, Dangerous Monitor console with Chris Muth DAC for monitoring path, Vintage Neve 1272 line amps racked by Brent Averill, Ampex ATR-102 half-inch recorder with flux magnetics mastering heads and Class-A Aria electronics, Studer A807 quarter-inch tape machine, and a Sonic PMCD for disc assembly.
