SOUNDSHED MUSIC PRODUCTIONS

Published on May 5th, 2010

Soundshed is based in the beautiful upper Blue Mountains, about an hour and a half drive west of Sydney. The studio inhabitants (including Freddy the dog – pictured) pride themselves on Soundshed’s professional, yet very relaxed atmosphere, away from the intensity of Sydney traffic.

At Soundshed, Stewart and Snez Peters specialise in producing broadcast quality tracks for solo singers and songwriters, along with music for radio and television. The pair draw upon Stewart’s ability as a singer and musician to add almost any instrumentation required to your production. Stewart is also a successful songwriter – which comes in handy when it comes to song arrangement.
The room itself consists of an integrated large brick-walled recording and control room, covering approximately 70 square metres. There’s a separate semi-sound proofed vocal room and two other isolation rooms available. Stewart tells us that the brick walls and soft furnishings provide an exquisite sound for vocal and acoustic guitar sounds.
Snez tells us the rooms are not set up for full band tracking, preferring to record drums and bass alongside guide vocals and guitars, then overdub guitars, vocals and other instruments separately.
Soundshed uses Nuendo 3 recording software, combined with Waves and Universal Audio plug-ins. Microphones include a Neumann U87 and U89, Rhode NTK1, AKG 451, AKG D112, along with various Rode, Shure and Electro-Voice microphones. Instruments include a Martin acoustic guitar, Yamaha classical acoustics, a Fender Precision Lite bass guitar, Fender Stratocaster, Gretsch semi-acoustic, Dobro, mandolin, ukulele, and a lap slide guitar.
