Michael Gissing and his Digital City Studios specialise in post-production sound and picture mixing for film, broadcast, DVD and Blu-ray. Two studios plus a generous recording space includes foley trays render Digital City the all encompassing post facility that is is.
As documented in issue 62 of AudioTechnology, Digital City Studios is a straw-bale construction with Earth-friendly passive air-conditioning, situated on 40 acres in the stunning Huon Valley in rural Tasmania, a scant 45 minutes from Hobart.
The hardware quotient of Digital City comprises two Fairlight Xynergis – one in each studio. The Fairlight systems provide 144 tracks with 256 mix tracks. Xynergi is capable of working with all broadcast and film frame rates, with comprehensive import from OMF, AAF, AES, multi-channel broadcast WAV and Final Cut Pro XML files. Embedded quicktime files ensure fast and accurate sync with basic video editing functionality. Of course, 5.1 and stereo mixing formats are catered for, with monitoring provided via Spatial One surround sound monitors and Spatial One sub-woofer. Dynamics processing is by Penny & Giles. Schoeps and DPA Holophone microphones are the audio capture devices of choice.
