Toyland Recording Studio

Published on August 3rd, 2010

Northcote, Victoria

Toyland Recording Studio has been servicing a variety of clients for over 15 years. Toyland was established as an independent recording studio catering for all genres of music. It is now positioned at the upper end of the project studios scale, professional enough to complete a broadcast quality product, while still being affordable for independent artists. As technology has changed and client needs have diversified, Toyland has successfully progressed into different areas. These include voice-over for multimedia, audio post, radio and television, film soundtracks, advertising jingles and mastering.

Toyland offers a combination of classic and contemporary equipment to suit all needs. Record through a 1960s Telefunken V72 or V276 preamp, compress using 1970s UREI compressors, and equalise using a 1980s Neve V series or Focusrite ISA 110 EQ, all recorded to an up-to-date 24-bit digital multitrack for editing, re-arranging and mixing, or to good ol’ two-inch tape with Dolby SR or A noise reduction.

Toyland offers a main recording area that can be altered with removable baffles – from semi live through to extremely dead. There’s also a very live and bright drum room that can function as a reverb chamber, dependent upon your needs. A third space provides amp isolation when required. Bands can play live, or overdub using the various rooms. Gear includes an MTR90 MK2 two-inch multitrack recorder, Telefunken V72 and Focusrite ISA110 preamps, 1176, LA3A, 1178, LA4, and LA5 compressors, along with mics from Neumann, AKG, Shure, and Sennheiser. Outboard effects include Eventide H3000 and DSP4000 units, along with reverbs from Lexicon.
