Audrey Studios, situated in Melbourne’s multicultural suburb of Coburg is a second home to studio owner, producer and engineer, Craig Pilkington, of Killjoys fame. Studio A is geared towards an analogue/digital hybrid workflow, combining a customised 44-channel Trident 24 series console and TEAC MS-16 one-inch tape-machine running alongside ProTools HD 8 and Lynx Aurora16 converters.
Clients can mix and match Amek 9098 channel strips, Trident and Sebatron preamps with Amek, Giles Audio, Sebatron, Phillips, dbx, BSS, AWA and LA Audio dynamics processors.
The main recording area is a large, acoustically designed space offering two isolation booths, with full sight-lines to the control room.
A generous collection of vintage instruments reside at Audrey Studios, including a double bass, electric, acoustic and bass guitars, dulcimer, mandolin, a Yamaha baby grand piano and Feurich (1917) upright piano, 40′s Hammond organ, piano accordion, and more horns than you can poke a ribbon mic at. A Premier Signia Maple drum kit is also available for hire.
Microphones include a Neumann U47, Peluso 22 251, Milab DC-96B, Rode NT1, NT1A and NT4, Beyer and Reslo ribbon microphones, amongst others from Mann, Audio-Technica, AKG and Shure.
Studio B is kitted out with ProTools LE 002 and a Sebatron VMPC-220, and incorporates an adjacent vocal booth – with overdubs and premix editing as well as audio books, podcasts and vinyl transfers being the second room’s trade.
The recently upgraded monitoring system provides five individual headphone mixes via an SM Pro HP6E, as well as control room monitoring choices of NS10s, KRK V88s or 70s Celestion Ditton speakers.
