Salt Studios

Published on December 11th, 2009

Brighton East, Victoria

Salt Studios is situated amidst Melbournes Bayside district, and has recently completed wiring up a new Writing Room to augment the already established main studio. The writing rooms gear includes a ProTools HD3 system running ProTools and Logic DAW platforms, connected to the real world by Lynx Aurora16 convertors. For a tasty vocal channel, clients can mix and match various preamps such as the Chandler LTD-1, with compression via the Retro176, Oram Sonicomp, Universal Audio LA-2A, or the obligatory Distressor. Guitar crunch comes courtesy of rack-mounted guitar heads from Giles Audio, Mesa, and of course the ubiquitous SansAmp PSA-1. There are also buckets of MIDI instruments including Waldorf, Studio Electronics, Access and JoMox, with the Eventide DSP 4500 lurking for superlative effect processing. The room is designed to be self-driven, but staff engineer Steve Melville is always on hand to help out if the need arises.
Salts main studio offers a veritable smorgasbord of preamp and compression options, all lassoed into fighting form via a modified Soundworkshop console. Two booths allow vocal and amplification isolation, and with hundreds of guitar and amplification alternatives, the Salt crew will have the sound you want up on the board, and into the ProTools HD3 system in no time.
