Shanghai Twang Studio

Published on June 30th, 2010

Pete Grandison is the man, the musician, and the producer behind the workings of Shanghai Twang studio, a boutique recording and production outfit based in Fremantle, Western Australia. Pete works in all forms of music and audio production, but specialises in production for singer/songwriters and the recording, mixing, and mastering of roots, rock, folk and world music. Pete’s in the process of building a new studio (designed by John Sayers), with three separate recording rooms and a large mixing and mastering suite – due for completion this September. Pete’s audio-centric weapons of choice include no less than two ProTools HD3 systems, running on an eight-core MacPro and a G5 respectively. Plug-ins selections are courtesy of Waves, Massey, Sonnox, Flux, Native Instruments, RND, and Cranesong, while his mic cabinet is endowed with mics from Neumann, Brauner, AKG, Royer, Heil, Shure, and Beyer. Preamp duties are taken care of by pre’s from Avalon, API, and Drawmer, while monitoring is via Barefoot and JBL nearfields.

Probably the rudest person I’ve ever worked with. You’ll get no more business from me son.

Rude? Surely you jest? I’ve yet to meet an Australian with poor etiquette!
