MOTU 828ES REDESIGNED WITH ESS CONVERTERS

By

27 September 2017

Motu reinvents its 828 interface with ESS Sabre32 Ultra DAC technology and a new front panel design. Named the 828ES, it connects to Mac, PC, or iOS devices over Thunderbolt or USB to give you 60 total channels of I/O, 48-channel mixing, and 32-bit floating point DSP effects processing. New control room features include a built-in talkback mic with front panel Talk button and A/B monitor select, mute and sum-to-mono buttons for the main outs.

Advanced extras have been imported from Motu’s flagship 1248 interface. Dynamic range goes to 123dB with ESS Sabre32 Ultra DAC technology and round trip latency is as low as 1.6ms at 96kHz over Thunderbolt (and 1.9ms over USB). The USB audio class compliant firmware for connection to iOS devices, convenient web app control from any mobile computing device, flexible matrix-style routing and splitting, stand alone mixing with wi-fi control and AVB-TSN audio networking for system expansion.

Housed in a 1RU aluminium alloy chassis, the 828es has two redesigned mic/guitar combo inputs that can be controlled from the front panel or remotely via software. Additional I/O includes eight balanced analogue in/out (with DC coupled outputs), separate main outs on XLR jacks, two banks of eight-channel optical I/O (switchable to stereo TOSLink), S/PDIF digital I/O and two independent front panel headphone jacks with volume controls.
