RODE’S 50TH CELEBRATED WITH NEW MICS

By

20 January 2017

Celebrating its 50th anniversary in Vegas luxury, Rode’s product announcements just kept coming in the lead up to NAMM. Notably the ‘secret’ mic that was in development with Tony Faulkner has finally hit the streets — the TFM-50 valve omnidirectional model, designed specifically for classical music. But it didn’t stop there. Also released this week was the NT-49 variable polar pattern microphone that shares a capsule and form factor with the TFM-50, the NT-RV valve ribbon mic, and the NT-5 matched pair. Wait — the NT5s aren’t new? No, but Rode’s improved capsule technology supposedly makes stereo pairing more accurate than ever, so much so that it warranted a re-release of the Aussie workhorse SDC. On the filmmaking side, the new VideoMic Pro+ manages to improve on the already-popular VideoMic with an impressively long battery life.
